According to the recent UNDP Human Development Report, "Ninety per cent of the world's population lives in countries that share their water resources with other nations. India and Pakistan have been sharing Indus waters for half-a-century through the Permanent Indus Water Commission. India is ranked 126 in the Human Development Index out of 177 countries and on the Human Poverty Index it ranks No.55 among the other 122 countries. The report says that, there is more work to be accomplished to bring an equitable distribution of water and sanitation among the haves and the have-nots.
Why is it so difficult to get clean and safe drinking water? When the economy spends exorbitant prices on the defence systems. Yes it is a neccesity but when the development components such as Water, Electricity, Education, Food and a Shelter to live in become scarse! it is essential to distribute the resources and the per capita income evenly.
2 Million children die every year due to the growing water and sanitation crisis. In the recent national newspaper the headlines said that 'Water in Delhi flowing from the Yamuna is Cancerous'. Now how can we take no notice of that! And still be happy with the 'Reverse Osmosis' treated water that we drink daily.
I wish there will be solutions to save those 2 Million Children and the rest of the surving population. 'I AM ONE OF THEM'....
